Mitch Patridge • Chairman
As a successful entrepreneur for 30+ years, Mitch has a broad background in banking, portfolio acquisition, management, servicing centers, real estate and healthcare financial services. Mitch led the acquisition of ClearBalance in 2003 and has since grown the company and its offerings of consumer-friendly patient loan programs. ClearBalance has served more than 4.5 million patient accounts for hundreds of health systems, clinics and physician practices nationwide. Recognized as an authority in health care and consumer finance, Mitch has been featured extensively in the healthcare media. He instills in the ClearBalance team a sense of purpose to help consumers afford the care they need to lead healthy lives.
Bruce Haupt • President and CEO
Bruce is responsible for the corporate direction, strategy and overall business performance of ClearBalance. He joined the company in 2013 as senior vice president of sales and marketing, bringing a focus and discipline that has enabled ClearBalance to extend its industry leadership position. With more than 25 years’ healthcare and IT experience at large corporations including McKesson and IBM, Bruce is keenly aware of the industry’s challenges and opportunities. He is a frequent speaker and subject matter expert on such topics as healthcare revenue cycle, consumerism in healthcare and financial performance metrics.
Ray Freedenberg • CFO
Ray joined ClearBalance in 2006. As CFO, Ray is responsible for accounting and financial reporting, FP&A, treasury, taxes, underwriting, legal documentation, internal audit and compliance and risk management. Ray is a member of the ClearBalance Credit Committee, the Information Technology Committee and attends meetings of the Board of Directors. Ray previously was Portfolio Manager for Meridian Commercial Healthcare Finance where he managed a portfolio of high yield asset-based credit facilities. He also worked in the audit department at Liberty Mutual Group. Ray received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Bentley University in Waltham, MA.
Chris Brazil • Chief Revenue Officer
Chris joined ClearBalance in 2017, was appointed to the position of Chief Revenue Officer. Chris has extensive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, ranging from CBO management and outreach to patient pay solutions and tools to improve financial performance. He previously was with Cardon Outreach, serving in various roles including sales, business development and strategy, and client relations.
Craig Webster • Executive Vice President, Operations
Craig joined ClearBalance in December 2012 as chief information officer with oversight for the funding platform that runs ClearBalance programs for its health system clients and patient guarantors. He also is responsible for all corporate IT functions, including network infrastructure, security, data analytics and transactional platforms and disaster recovery. In 2016 Craig was appointed Executive Vice President of Operations. In addition to IT operations, Craig is responsible for client relationship management and the ClearBalance customer service center, known as the Patient Experience Center. Craig previously was Sr. VP of Operations for MedAssets’ Revenue Cycle Technology division. Before working at MedAssets Craig ran technology departments for Affiliated Computer Services and Coprasoft LLC.
Kathleen Brown • Sr. VP, Customer Success and Innovation
Healthcare industry veteran Kathleen Brown leads the Customer Success and Innovation team. Kathleen works closely with ClearBalance provider partners to develop a patient pay management strategy that enables health systems to adapt to the demands of healthcare consumerism and market evolution. Kathleen has worked with leading hospitals and health systems for more than 20 years, supporting their clinical and financial strategy with a focus on long-term, strategic partnerships. Before joining ClearBalance in 2018, Kathleen worked for McKesson Corp. from 2002 to 2017. She held several client engagement positions and was responsible for guiding and counseling major healthcare organizations in their strategic use of revenue cycle, clinical and resource management IT solutions.
Michelle Tygart • Chief Compliance Officer
Michelle has more than 15 years of experience overseeing legal and compliance functions in the financial services sector. Before joining ClearBalance in 2017, Michelle was General Counsel & Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management and Loss Mitigation for Denver, Colo.-based Public Service Credit Union. As Chief Compliance Officer for ClearBalance, Michelle monitors healthcare and financial regulatory requirements to ensure continued compliance of the ClearBalance program.
Laurie Heavey • VP, Product & Strategic Marketing
Laurie Heavey is vice president of marketing, including strategy, positioning, lifecycle and market analysis, sales support, integrated marketing, thought leadership and customer communications. An experienced marketer with 20 years devoted exclusively to health care, Laurie is a champion for the customer. Among her varied marketing responsibilities, Laurie supports health system clients that recognize patient loan programs are a strategic differentiator to increase patient satisfaction, market share and attract consumers.
Pete Thompson • Senior Solutions Architect
Pete joined ClearBalance in 2004 and has served in myriad client program performance roles, including management of the funding department and director of client services. As senior solutions architect, Pete is responsible for client solution design, including financial modeling and ROI analysis. He also counsels prospective and current clients about their revenue cycle workflow to drive optimal results from the ClearBalance program. Pete is involved in client implementation to ensure all benefits are translated from paper to practice. Before ClearBalance, Pete was a senior analyst with Cardinal Health.
Grant Phillips • CIO
As CIO for ClearBalance, Grant oversees the company’s internal systems and security. He also is responsible for continuing development and maintenance of ClearBalance proprietary, core technology platforms for funding, and client and patient portals. Grant joined ClearBalance in 2012 as Chief Software Architect. He was promoted to VP, Product Development in 2014 before assuming his current position of CIO. Grant has 20 years’ experience in information technology, including more than 10 years working at healthcare IT companies.
Turquoise Owens • Director, Client Experience
Turquoise joined the ClearBalance team in 2009 as manager of client solutions. In this role Turquoise worked with our health system partners to ensure optimal use of the ClearBalance program. In 2016 Turquoise assumed oversight of Client Solutions and Client Experience Account Management. She leads a team responsible for clients’ daily operations using the ClearBalance program as well as planning and program performance. Before joining ClearBalance Turquoise worked for American Specialty Health, a specialty health services provider.
Christian Coburn • Director, Patient Experience Center
Christian brings more than 15 years’ retail customer service and sales experience to his role as director of the ClearBalance Patient Experience Center. He has managed, centralized and established customer call centers across multiple industries with a solid track record of improving performance and customer satisfaction. Among his many achievements Christian has received a Master’s Certification in customer relationship management by the University of Toyota.
Michelle Meehan • Director, Implementation
Michelle oversees implementation of the ClearBalance program with our partner hospitals. With more than 10 years’ experience in revenue cycle management, Michelle previously provided implementation leadership at MedAssets, managing more than 70 client projects annually.
